We present our vision of a new market in the central part of Gargždai – a project that strengthens vitality, community spirit and sustainable development of the city.
The project is based on the principles of viability, mix of functions, sustainability and a clear urban structure. The new market square and the market become the main axis of the city – a centre of attraction that connects different spaces and creates a place for meetings, trade and everyday life.
The aim is to create a modern, communal market, where indoor and outdoor spaces organically merge into a seamless architectural structure. The image of the traditional market is interpreted in a new way – as an open space, protected from rain and sun, functioning not only as a place of trade, but also as a living social centre.
The architectural idea is based on scale sensitivity – the volumes of the building shrink as they approach the residential quarters, strengthening the connection with the environment. The main accent is a wide, one-piece roof, which combines the indoor hall-type shopping area and outdoor spaces into a unified whole. The structure is based on the modular grid principle, which ensures the functionality, durability of the building and the possibility of evolving with the city, expanding the structure into the public spaces around it. This vision reveals how the city centre can become a vibrant, sustainable and community-centric urban core.
