AUST, Apartment Block

Year: 2016
Gross built area: 3 210 m²
Project location: Skolas st, Riga, Latvia
Building function: Residential

This residential and mixed-use project in Riga, harmonizes contemporary design with its historic urban context. The building’s form and volume respect surrounding architecture, maintaining sunlight access and balancing modernist massing with the finer scale of traditional wooden buildings. A perimeter block arrangement strengthens the street edge while creating a protected courtyard for recreation, with playgrounds and green spaces shielded from traffic. Commercial spaces animate the ground floor, and underground parking preserves open areas. Facades feature plaster, Trespa wood-textured panels, and timber shutters, with patterns inspired by traditional Latvian textiles—creating a distinctive identity while enhancing the neighborhood’s character.
